Daniel

“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his.” II Tim 2:19

Daniel definitely knew the power of prayer. Because he had a prayer life, when he went through some very hard trials, he was able to do the right thing. And because he did the right thing, God delivered him!

Daniel was still a teenager when he was taken from the place where he grew up into a strange land. That had to be pretty scary. However, when Daniel felt afraid, he prayed to the one true God like his parents taught him to. When he was chosen to work for the king of Babylon, he kept praying three times a day like his parents taught him to. When the king offered him some meat that was offered to false gods, Daniel was able to say, “No.” He was able to say,

“No” to every evil thing anyone tried to get him to do. Why? Because he kept praying… three times a day. Many years went by and Daniel was still in Babylon. Then came the test of his life. Some evil men that were jealous of him got the king to pass a law to try to get Daniel to stop praying to God.  This decree said that for the next month, if anyone was caught praying to anyone but the king, they would be thrown into a den of hungry lions!

Even when Daniel knew about this decree, he kept praying! This was all he knew from childhood, and he wasn’t about to stop now! He kept his windows open to Jerusalem and prayed three times a day. Because of this, he had to be thrown to the lions.
