Samson

Samson was a man that, from a young age, the Spirit of the Lord was upon him. In the Bible, we read several accounts of him. He killed a lion with his hands, slew a thousand men with the jawbone of an ass, and took the gates of a city and carried them up a hill. During all this time, the Spirit of the Lord was with him; but there was a time in his life where he messed up. We find it was lust that messed him up, but he didn’t stay down. He saw a woman named Delilah and he “loved” her. The Philistines wanted to kill him, so they used her to find out where his great strength came from. She began to ask him, but he would not give in and tell her at first. However, he eventually; told her all his heart. He told her that his strength was due to the fact that a razor had never been upon his head. Once Samson told Delilah all his heart, and wherein his strength came from; the Spirit of God left him. At this point he was no match for the Philistines and they then shaved his head and plucked out his eyes. Next, they brought him down to Gaza, put fetters of brass upon him, and put him into prison. While he was in the prison his hair began to grow back. One day the Philistines began to mock him and called for him to come to make sport of them. Led by a lad, he was brought and set between the two pillars of the house where they were. Samson asked the lad that led him to help him feel the pillars of the house, that he may lean upon them. And Samson called unto the LORD said, “O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes” (Ju 16:28). We see that Samson ended it in prayer. He made it right. We don’t read about Samson again until we get to Hebrews 11, in the Roll Call of Faith. Of all those who made it in, Samson was there, too. This encourages us to pray and NEVER quit no matter what happens.
